Introduction
The ICL8038 waveform generator is a monolithic integrated circuit that produces high-accuracy sine, square, triangular, sawtooth, and pulse waveforms with only a small number of external components. The frequency (or repetition rate) can be selected from 0.001Hz to above 300kHz via external resistors or capacitors, and FM and sweep capabilities are achievable through an external voltage. The ICL8038 is fabricated using advanced monolithic technology with Schottky barrier diodes and thin-film resistors, delivering stable outputs over a wide range of temperature and supply variations. These devices can be connected to phase-locked loop circuits to reduce temperature drift to less than 250ppm/°C.
