Introduction
The LM78Mxx series three-terminal positive voltage regulators are available in the DPAK package with multiple fixed output voltages, suitable for a wide range of applications. These regulators provide on-board local regulation, eliminating distribution problems associated with single-point regulation. Each model features internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe-area protection, making damage virtually impossible. With adequate heatsinking, they can deliver output currents in excess of 0.5 A. Although these devices are primarily designed as fixed voltage regulators, they can also be used with external components to obtain adjustable voltages and currents.
