Introduction
MAX3080E–MAX3088E are +5.0V-powered RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with ±16kV ESD protection. A failsafe circuit ensures the receiver outputs a logic-high when the receiver inputs are open or shorted, or when all drivers connected to a terminated bus are disabled. All devices feature hot-plug capability, eliminating bus glitch transients during power-up or hot insertion.
The MAX3080E–MAX3088E drivers deliver an enhanced output voltage swing (exceeding 2.1V into a 54Ω load), ensuring greater noise margin. The MAX3080E–MAX3085E feature slew-rate-limited drivers that reduce EMI and reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free data transmission at up to 500kbps. The MAX3086E/MAX3087E/MAX3088E drivers have no slew-rate limitation, supporting data rates up to 16Mbps. The MAX3082E/MAX3085E/MAX3088E are designed for half-duplex communication; the MAX3080E/MAX3081E/MAX3083E/MAX3084E/MAX3086E/MAX3087E are designed for full-duplex communication. All devices feature 1/8-unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus.
