Introduction
The CD4541B programmable timer consists of a 16-bit binary counter, an on-chip oscillator (requiring an external capacitor and two resistors), output control logic, and a special power-on reset circuit. This power-on reset circuit draws no additional quiescent current, and the reset function remains effective across the full 5V to 15V supply voltage range regardless of whether it is enabled. When the power-on reset function is enabled, the internal timer and counter are initialized at power-up; when power is already applied, an external reset pulse can also initialize the timer and counter. After reset, the on-chip oscillator frequency is determined by the externally connected RC time constant. The 16-bit counter divides the oscillator frequency by a ratio controlled by any selected 4-bit binary value.
Features
- Available divide ratios: 2^8, 2^10, 2^13, or 2^16
- Built-in low-power RC oscillator (±2% accuracy over full temperature range at frequencies below 10kHz, ±10% accuracy over full operating supply voltage range, and ±3% process variation)
- Oscillator frequency range: DC to 100kHz
- Internal oscillator bypassable when using external clock
- Automatic power-on reset initializes all counters
- External master reset operates independently of automatic reset
- Usable as 2^n frequency divider or one-shot timer
- Output logic level configurable via Q/Q̄ output selection
- Oscillator can be disabled during reset (automatic or master reset) to reduce dynamic power consumption
- Clock conditioning circuit supports operation with extremely slow clock rise and fall times
- Wide supply voltage range: 5.0V~15V
- Available in 5V, 10V, and 15V ratings
- High noise immunity — typical value 0.45×VDD
- Maximum input leakage current 1μA at 15V supply over full temperature range
