Introduction
ESP32-WROVER-B is a general-purpose Wi-Fi + BT + BLE MCU module that is powerful and versatile, suitable for low-power sensor networks as well as demanding applications such as voice encoding, audio streaming, and MP3 decoding. Two variants are available — one with a PCB onboard antenna and one with an IPEX antenna — both configured with 4 MB SPI flash and 8 MB SPI PSRAM. The module is built around the ESP32-D0WD from the ESP32 series, featuring scalable and adaptive characteristics. The two CPU cores can be controlled independently, with CPU clock frequency adjustable from 80 MHz to 240 MHz. Users can power down the CPUs and use the low-power coprocessor to monitor peripheral state changes or whether certain analog values exceed a threshold. ESP32 also integrates a rich set of peripherals, including capacitive touch sensors, Hall sensor, SD card interface, Ethernet interface, high-speed SPI, UART, I²S, and I²C. The module integrates Classic Bluetooth, BLE, and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi enables wide-range communication connectivity and supports direct internet access via a router; Bluetooth allows users to connect to mobile phones or broadcast BLE Beacons for signal detection. The ESP32 chip's sleep current is less than 5 μA, making it well-suited for battery-powered wearable electronics. The module supports data transfer rates of up to 150 Mbps, with antenna output power reaching 20 dBm for maximum-range wireless communication. ESP32 runs freeRTOS with LwIP and features built-in TLS 1.2 with hardware acceleration. The chip also supports OTA encrypted upgrades, enabling users to continue updating their products after release.
