Introduction
The ADL5801 integrates a high-linearity double-balanced active mixer core and an LO buffer amplifier, providing wideband dynamic range frequency conversion from 10 MHz to 6 GHz. A proprietary linearization architecture enables enhanced IP3 performance at high input levels. The bias adjustment feature optimizes input linearity, SSB noise figure, and DC current through a single control pin. An optional input power detector enables adaptive bias control. In cellular applications, in-band blocking signals can degrade dynamic performance; the device's high input linearity allows it to meet these demanding requirements. The adaptive bias feature enables high IP3 performance in the presence of strong blocking signals. When the blocking signal is removed, the ADL5801 automatically reduces bias to achieve low noise figure and low power consumption.
The balanced active mixer configuration provides excellent LO-to-RF and LO-to-IF isolation, with typical values better than -40 dBm. With a 200 Ω load, the IF output delivers a voltage conversion gain of 7.8 dB (typical). The wide frequency range of the open-collector IF output makes the ADL5801 suitable as an upconverter in a variety of transmission applications.
The ADL5801 is manufactured using a SiGe high-performance IC process. The device is available in a compact 4 mm×4 mm, 24-lead LFCSP package with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. An evaluation board is also available.
