Introduction
The OPT3001 sensor measures the intensity of visible light. The sensor's spectral response closely matches the visual response of the human eye, with strong IR rejection.
The OPT3001 is a single-chip lux meter that measures light intensity as perceived by the human eye. The OPT3001 features precision spectral response and strong IR rejection, enabling accurate human-eye-like light intensity measurements regardless of light source. The strong IR rejection also helps maintain high accuracy in industrial designs where sensors must be mounted behind dark glass for aesthetic purposes. Designed specifically for building light-based, human-eye-like experience systems, the OPT3001 is the ideal replacement for photodiodes, photoresistors, or other ambient light sensors with poor human-eye matching and weak IR rejection capability.
The measurement range extends from 0.01 lux to 83 klux, with a built-in automatic full-scale setting function that eliminates the need for manual full-scale range selection. This feature enables light measurements across a 23-bit effective dynamic range.
Digital operation provides flexibility for system integration. Measurements can be performed either continuously or in single-shot trigger mode. The control and interrupt system operates autonomously, allowing the processor to remain in sleep mode while the sensor monitors for wake events and reports them via the interrupt pin. Digital output is reported through an I2C and SMBus-compatible two-wire serial interface.
The OPT3001 combines low power consumption with low supply voltage to extend battery life in battery-powered systems.
