Introduction
TP4056-MS is a 1A linear lithium battery charger designed for portable device applications. It operates from both USB and adapter power sources, with a built-in reverse-charge protection circuit that eliminates the need for an external isolation diode. The charge termination voltage is 4.2V, and the charge current is programmable via an external resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the set value, the charging process terminates automatically. Once the input voltage is removed, the device automatically enters an ultra-low-power standby state, reducing standby current to below 1uA. When input power is present, the device can also be placed in shutdown mode, reducing operating current to 50uA. The TP4056-MS is a linear charging circuit specifically designed for single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries. The integrated power transistor allows the charge current to be set via an external resistor, with a maximum continuous charge current of up to 1A, requiring no additional blocking diode or current-sense resistor. It features two open-drain status indicator outputs: CHRG for charge-in-progress indication and STDBY for charge-complete indication. When the input voltage exceeds the UVLO threshold and the CE pin is pulled high, battery charging begins, and the CHRG pin pulls low to indicate charging is in progress. If the battery voltage is below 2.9V, the charger applies a trickle precharge current; once the battery voltage exceeds 2.9V, the device switches to constant-current (CC) mode, with the charge current determined by resistor R_PROG connected between the PROG pin and GND. As the battery voltage approaches 4.2V, the device transitions to constant-voltage (CV) mode. When the charge current decreases to the termination threshold (10% of the CC charge current), the charge cycle ends, the CHRG pin goes high-impedance, and the STDBY pin pulls low. The on-chip high-precision voltage reference, error amplifier, and resistor divider network ensure the battery terminal regulation voltage accuracy to within 1%. When the input voltage is lost or falls below the battery voltage, the charger enters a low-power sleep mode, reducing battery drain current to less than 5uA to extend standby time. Pulling the CE pin low disables charging.
