Introduction
The CTS-420 series is a two-wire current loop position transmitter system specifically designed for measurement in process industries. Each system consists of an HCI series LVDT linear position sensor or an R36AS RVDT rotary position sensor, paired with an electronics module that provides a 4-20mA current loop output. The system operates on unregulated supply voltages from 10 to 36VDC. The electronics module supplies the required AC excitation voltage to the position sensor and converts the AC voltage output into a smooth 4-20mA signal. Zero and span adjustment potentiometers, along with sensor and loop power connection terminals, are located on the front panel for easy installation and calibration. The HCI LVDT is purpose-built for the CTS-420 system, featuring stainless steel construction with hermetic sealing. As with most LVDTs, the HCI's windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is potted within its housing using two-part epoxy — providing excellent protection against harsh environments including high vibration and shock. Both the LVDT and RVDT sensors feature integrated, welded electrical hermetic connectors. The CTS-420 is well suited for applications where environmental or space constraints require remote sensor placement (up to 35 feet). Furthermore, its inductance and capacitance levels are well below those specified by intrinsic safety requirements.
