A water flow sensor measures the flow rate of liquid passing through it. The YF-S201 water flow sensor consists of a plastic valve body, a flow rotor, and a Hall effect sensor, typically used for flow detection at the water inlet. When liquid flows through the sensor, the magnetic rotor spins at a speed proportional to the flow rate, and the Hall effect sensor outputs a pulse width signal. By connecting it to a microcontroller, you can monitor devices such as coffee machines and sprinklers, and control water flow as needed. It is recommended to use 20mm threaded pipes, avoid exposing the device to corrosive chemicals, mount the device vertically with a tilt of no more than 5 degrees, and keep the liquid temperature below 120°C to prevent damage.
