Introduction
RAA210870 is a pin-configurable 70A step-down PMBus-compatible DC/DC power module integrating a digital PWM controller, synchronous MOSFETs, power inductor, and passive components. The design requires only input and output capacitors to complete. With its thermally enhanced HDA package, the module delivers up to 70A continuous output current without airflow or additional heatsinking. The RAA210870 simplifies the configuration and control of Renesas digital power technology while providing an upgrade path to full PMBus configuration via the pin-compatible ISL8273M. The module operates over a 4.5V to 14V input voltage range, with an adjustable output voltage as low as 0.6V and conversion efficiency up to 93%. The unique charge-mode control architecture responds to output load transients within a single clock cycle and supports switching frequencies up to 1MHz. The power module integrates all power components and most passive components, requiring only a small number of external components for operation. A set of external resistors allows users to easily configure the device for standard operation. The standard PMBus interface handles fault management in addition to providing real-time comprehensive telemetry and point-of-load monitoring. Fully customizable voltage, current, and temperature protection schemes ensure safe operation of the RAA210870 under abnormal operating conditions. The device is also supported by PowerNavigator software, a complete digital power train development environment. The RAA210870 is available in a slim, compact 18mm×23mm×7.5mm fully encapsulated thermally enhanced HDA package.
