Introduction
The TLC59116-Q1 is a 16-channel LED driver controlled by the I²C bus, which is optimized for red/green/blue/amber (RGBA) mixing and backlighting applications. Each LED output has its own 8-bit resolution (256 color levels), fixed frequency, independent PWM controller (operating at 97kHz), and adjustable duty cycle (0% to 99.6%). The independent PWM controller allows each LED to be set to a specific brightness value. The additional 8-bit resolution (256 color levels) combined PWM controller has both a fixed frequency of 190Hz, an adjustable frequency (24Hz to once every 10.73 seconds), and an adjustable duty cycle (0% to 99.6%). The combined PWM controller uses the same value to brighten or dim all LEDs. Each LED output can be set to off, on (without PWM control), or the value of its respective PWM controller (the value of the independent PWM controller and the value of the combined PWM controller). The TLC59116-Q1 operates with a power supply voltage ranging from 3V to 5.5V, and the output can withstand a voltage of 17V. LEDs can be directly connected to the outputs of the TLC59116-Q1 device. The software-programmable LED combination and three sub-call I²C bus addresses allow all or defined groups of TLC59116-Q1 devices to respond to the same I²C bus address, enabling functions such as simultaneously turning on or off LEDs of the same color or creating a chasing light effect, thereby minimizing I²C bus commands. Four hardware address pins support connecting 14 devices on the same bus. The software reset (SWRST) call allows the host to reset the TLC59116-Q1 via the I²C bus. This reset, like the power-on reset (POR), initializes the registers to their default states, setting the outputs to high level (LEDs off). In this way, all device registers can be easily and quickly reconfigured to the same state.
