The HD3SS3220 is a USB SuperSpeed (SS) 2:1 multiplexer with a DRP port controller. This device provides the channel configuration (CC) logic and 5V VCONN power for USB Type-C implementation in the ecosystem. The HD3SS3220 can be configured as a downstream port (DFP), an upstream port (UFP), or a dual-role port (DRP), making it an ideal choice for any application. According to the Type-C specification, the HD3SS3220 alternates between configuring itself as a DFP or a UFP in DRP mode. The CC logic block monitors the pull-up or pull-down resistors on the CC1 and CC2 pins to determine when a USB port is connected and its port role. After connecting a USB port, the CC logic also determines the cable orientation and configures the USB SS multiplexer accordingly. Finally, the CC logic announces or detects the Type-C current mode (default, medium, or high) in DFP and UFP modes, respectively. The integrated multiplexer has excellent dynamic characteristics, enabling switching with minimal signal eye diagram degradation and very little added jitter. Despite the different common-mode voltages of the RX and TX channels, the device's switch path deploys an adaptive common-mode voltage tracking function to ensure that the two channels are the same.
