Introduction
The AMC1204 and AMC1204B are 1-bit digital output, isolated Δ-Σ (ΔΣ) modulators with clock frequencies up to 20MHz. The silicon dioxide (SiO₂) isolation barrier offers strong immunity to magnetic interference and provides digital isolation for the modulator output. The isolation barrier is certified to provide basic electrical isolation up to 4000VPEAK (AMC1204) and 4250VPEAK (AMC1204B), complying with UL1577, VDE V 0884-11, and CSA standards or specifications. The AMC1204 and AMC1204B provide a single-chip solution for measuring small signals across shunt resistors in the isolation barrier. These types of resistors are commonly used for current sensing in motor control inverters, low-power generation systems, and digital input Class-D audio amplifiers in other industrial applications. The AMC1204 and AMC1204B differential inputs connect easily to shunt resistors or other low-level signal sources. An internal reference eliminates the need for external components. When used with an appropriate external digital filter, 14 effective number of bits (ENOB) can be achieved at a data rate of 78kSPS. The modulator operates from a 5V analog supply (AVDD), while the isolated digital interface can be powered from a 3V, 3.3V, or 5V supply (DVDD). The AMC1204 and AMC1204B are available in SOIC-16 (DW) and SOIC-8 (DWV) packages, rated for a temperature range of -40°C to 105°C.
