Introduction
SGM4056 is a cost-effective, fully integrated high input voltage single-cell Li-ion battery charger. The charger employs the CC/CV charging algorithm required for Li-ion batteries. It accepts input voltages up to 26.5V; however, when the input voltage exceeds the OVP threshold (typically 6.8V for SGM4056-6.8 or 10.5V for SGM4056-10.5), the charger is disabled to prevent excessive power dissipation. The 26.5V voltage rating eliminates the need for overvoltage protection circuitry required by low input voltage chargers. Charge current and end-of-charge (EOC) current are programmable via external resistors. When the battery voltage falls below the typical 2.55V threshold, the charger precharges the battery at approximately 18% of the programmed charge current. During the constant voltage phase, the CHG pin (an open-drain output) provides an EOC indication when the charge current drops to the programmable EOC current level. An internal thermal foldback function protects the charger against thermal fault conditions. Two indicator pins (PPR and CHG) provide convenient interfacing with a microprocessor or LEDs. When no adapter is connected or the charger is disabled, the leakage current drawn from the battery is less than 1μA. The SGM4056 is available in Green TDFN-3×3-8L, TDFN-2×3-8L, TDFN-2×2-8L, and SOIC-8 (Exposed Pad) packages, with an operating temperature range of -40℃ to +85℃.
