Introduction
The MCP3425 is a single-channel, low-noise, high-accuracy, differential-input delta-sigma ADC in a compact SOT-23-6 package, with resolution up to 16 bits. The on-chip precision 2.048V reference provides a differential input voltage range of ±2.048V (ΔV = 4.096V). The device communicates via a 2-wire I²C-compatible serial interface and operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply. Users configure the controllable configuration bits via the 2-wire I²C serial interface, allowing the MCP3425 to perform conversions at rates of 15, 60, or 240 samples per second (SPS). The device features an on-chip programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with selectable gains of x1, x2, x4, or x8 prior to analog-to-digital conversion, enabling the MCP3425 to convert smaller input signals at higher resolution. Two conversion modes are available: (a) continuous conversion mode and (b) one-shot conversion mode. In one-shot mode, the device automatically enters a low-current standby state after each conversion, significantly reducing current consumption during idle periods. The MCP3425 is suited for a wide range of high-accuracy analog-to-digital data conversion applications where simple design, low power consumption, and small form factor are required.
