Introduction
The legendary MHR series linear variable differential transformers deliver precise measurements in space-constrained applications. With a diameter of only 3/8 inch [9.5 mm] and an extremely lightweight core, they are ideal for applications where a heavy core might affect motion; the reduced inertia makes it easier to achieve accurate measurements at higher displacement speeds. The lightweight core also reduces mechanical stress, helping to maintain the structural integrity of core-driven assemblies. The high output sensitivity resulting from tight electromagnetic coupling between the coil and core provides ample signal for interfacing with virtually all signal conditioners and conditioning circuits. A magnetic stainless steel housing provides electromagnetic and electrostatic shielding. The high-temperature model MHR-T covers stroke ranges from ±0.025 to ±1 inch. A high-pressure (vented housing) model MHR-V is also available. The MHR is compatible with Measurement Specialties' full line of linear variable differential transformer signal conditioners. As with most of our linear variable differential transformers, the MHR windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is encapsulated within the housing using a two-part epoxy. This provides excellent protection against harsh environments including high humidity, vibration, and shock.
