Introduction
The GCD Series heavy-duty DC-operated gaging transducers deliver high performance in environments containing moisture, dust, and liquid contaminants. These transducers are spring-loaded LVDTs with precision linear bearings and internal signal conditioning electronics. Operating from a nominal ±15VDC supply, they provide an extremely linear, low-noise ±10VDC output. These rugged transducers allow measurements over strokes ranging from ±0.05 inches [±1.27mm] to ±2 inches [±50.8mm]. Spring force is typically 9 oz [255g] at full compressed electrical stroke. A removable black chrome hardened tool steel tip connects to the working end via threaded connection (4-48UNF-2A). The internal construction prevents the core and shaft from rotating during longitudinal travel. The integral electrical connector (solder type) facilitates installation and allows replacement of damaged cables without harm to the sensor. Each transducer features external 1/2-20 mounting threads and two jam nuts for easy installation and adjustment. As with most LVDTs, the GCD windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is encapsulated within the housing using two-part epoxy. This provides excellent protection against harsh environments including high vibration and shock. The ruggedness, long service life, and exceptional reliability of the GCD Series result in low cost of ownership over the full service life of the installed equipment. The one-piece front end — the barrel containing the bearing assembly — is machined from solid stainless steel bar stock with bronze bushings, providing superior resistance to bending forces and side loads compared to other designs. This is especially important in long-stroke versions, as it reduces the common risk of probe damage/bending during installation or maintenance of industrial equipment. The GCD Series design requires fewer parts and solder joints, enhancing overall structural integrity and reliability.
