TRACO POWER TFI 150

The RIA 12 filter clamps overvoltage transients up to 385 VDC with a clamping voltage of 168 VDC. Compatible with any DC/DC converter and compliant with RIA12 and NF F 01-510 surge immunity standards. Wide input voltage range of 43–160 VDC, minimum undervoltage of 36 VDC, and operating temperature range of -40°C to +95°C.

The new TFI 150 is a surge filter in a compact 1.6" × 1" plastic package. Placed ahead of any DC/DC converter, the TFI clamps instantaneous overvoltage transients to a safe level, protecting the DC/DC converter from damage. During normal operation, the output voltage follows the input voltage (typically Vout = Vin − 2 VDC) until it is actively clamped at 168 VDC. While transients defined in EN 50155 (up to 154 VDC) can be covered by the wide input range of dedicated railway converters, the TFI handles the more stringent requirements of the RIA12 standard, which allows transients up to 385 VDC for durations of up to 20 ms. This level of protection is particularly necessary in railway applications where high-voltage transients are expected, and is also applicable to 72 VDC, 96 VDC, and 110 VDC battery systems used in railway applications.
