Introduction
This series of linear variable differential transformers operates from a single-ended DC supply, providing 0 to +5 VDC or +1 to +6 VDC output signals over the full-range displacement. The exceptionally high linearity and low-noise output make them ideal for interfacing with ADCs, PLCs, and unipolar inputs of various data acquisition systems. The series is internally regulated, providing immunity to supply ripple and allowing operation from unregulated supplies of 8.5 to 28 VDC. Typical current consumption is very low, making them well suited for remote or battery-powered applications. A highly stable oscillator delivers excellent thermal performance across the entire operating temperature range, while synchronous demodulation ensures superior noise rejection. Built-in EMI/ESD protection and shielded cables enable operation in noisy industrial environments, and dual magnetic shielding provides the highest level of protection against stray magnetic fields. As with most comparable products, the windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is potted within the housing using a two-part epoxy, offering outstanding protection against harsh environments including high humidity, vibration, and shock. The series is available in stroke ranges from 0.1 to 6 inches and can be configured with a variety of standard options, including metric-threaded cores, guided cores, and small-diameter/low-mass cores. An optional captive core design greatly simplifies installation; the core rod and bearing assembly features a front-end bronze bearing for self-alignment, while a PTFE bushing allows low-friction movement of the core rod within a stainless steel liner. Both the core rod and bearing assembly are field-serviceable.
