Introduction
The GCA series heavy-duty gages deliver high performance in environments containing moisture, dirt, and fluid contaminants. The gages are spring-loaded LVDTs with precision linear bearings. These rugged, high-temperature gages measure over strokes up to ±2 inches. Spring force is typically 9 oz at full electrical stroke compression. Removable black chrome-plated hardened tool steel tips thread onto the working end. The internal construction prevents the core and shaft from rotating during longitudinal travel. An integrated electrical connector simplifies installation and allows replacement of damaged cables without sacrificing the sensor. External 1/2-20 mounting threads and two locking nuts supplied with each unit facilitate installation and adjustment. As with most LVDTs, GCA windings are vacuum-impregnated with a specially formulated high-temperature flexible resin, and the coil assembly is encapsulated in its housing with two-component epoxy. This provides excellent protection in harsh environments such as high vibration and shock. The ruggedness, long service life, and extremely high reliability of the GCA series deliver a low cost of ownership over the installed equipment's service life. The one-piece front end is machined from solid stainless steel bar stock and, combined with bronze bushings, provides superior resistance to bending forces and side loads compared to other designs. This is particularly important for longer-stroke models, as it reduces the common risk of probe damage/bending during industrial equipment installation or maintenance. The GCA series design also reduces the number of parts and welded joints, thereby improving overall structural integrity and reliability.
