Introduction
The MCP8025A/6 devices are three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) power modules containing three integrated half-bridge drivers capable of driving three pairs of external NMOS/NMOS transistors. The three half-bridge drivers deliver 0.5A peak output current at 12V for driving high-side and low-side NMOS MOSFETs. The drivers feature shoot-through, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection. A sleep mode has been added to achieve a typical "key-off" quiescent current of 5μA. The MCP8025A device integrates a comparator, a buck regulator, two LDO regulators, power supply monitoring comparators, an over-temperature sensor, a LIN transceiver, a zero-crossing detector, a neutral point emulator, and an op-amp for motor current monitoring. A phase comparator and multiplexer enable hardware commutation detection. The neutral point emulator allows commutation detection without a neutral tap on the motor. The buck converter delivers 750mW to power a companion microcontroller. The buck regulator can be disabled if not used. On-board 5V and 12V low dropout (LDO) regulators supply 30mA of current. The MCP8026 device replaces the LIN transceiver, neutral point emulator, and zero-crossing detector found in the MCP8025A with two level shifters and two additional op-amps. The MCP8025A/6 operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. Package options include a 40-pin 5x5 QFN with exposed pad (EP) and a 48-pin 7x7 TQFP.
