Grove - Water Sensor detects the presence of water using exposed PCB traces. The sensor consists of interlaced ground and signal traces. The sensor trace is weakly pulled up via a 1 MΩ resistor. The resistor pulls the sensor trace value high until a water droplet bridges the sensor trace and ground trace, creating a short circuit. This circuit works with Arduino's digital I/O pins, and analog pins can also be used to detect the degree of water-induced contact between the ground trace and the sensor trace.
