Introduction
The DRV8711 is a stepper motor controller that uses external N-channel MOSFETs to drive a bipolar stepper motor or two brushed DC motors. It integrates a microstepping indexer and can support stepping modes from full-step to 1/256-step. By using adaptive blanking time and various different current decay modes, including the automatic mixed decay mode, a very smooth motion system configuration can be achieved. The motor stall is reported by an optional back electromotive force (EMF) output. A simple step/direction or pulse-width modulation (PWM) interface can be easily connected to the controller circuit. An SPI serial interface is used to set the device operation. The output current (torque), stepping mode, decay mode, and stall detection function can all be programmed through the SPI serial interface. The internal shutdown function supports overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, undervoltage lockout, and over-temperature protection. A FAULTn pin is used to indicate fault conditions, and each fault condition is reported by a dedicated bit through the SPI. The DRV8711 is available in a 38-pin heat-enhanced thin shrink small-outline package (HTSSOP) with a thermal pad (Environmentally friendly: RoHS compliant and lead/bromine free).
