Introduction
RAA210850 is a pin-configurable 50A step-down PMBus-compatible DC/DC power module integrating a digital PWM controller, synchronous MOSFETs, power inductor, and passive components. Only input and output capacitors are required to complete the design. With its enhanced thermal HDA package technology, the module delivers up to 50A continuous output current without airflow or additional heatsinking. The RAA210850 simplifies the configuration and control of Renesas digital power technology, while providing an upgrade path to full PMBus configuration via the pin-compatible ISL8272M. The RAA210850 employs a ChargeMode control architecture capable of responding to load transients within a single switching cycle. The module can be easily programmed via pin resistors to set output voltage, switching frequency, input UVLO, soft-start/stop, and device address. PMBus can be used to monitor voltage, current, temperature, and fault status. The RAA210850 is supported by PowerNavigator software, a GUI that configures the module for the desired solution. The RAA210850 features a low-profile, compact, fully encapsulated enhanced thermal HDA package measuring 18mm × 23mm × 7.5mm, suitable for automated assembly using standard SMT equipment.
