Introduction
The AD7980 is a 16-bit, successive approximation ADC that operates from a single supply (VDD). It incorporates a low power, high speed, 16-bit sampling ADC and a versatile serial interface port. On the rising edge of CNV, the device samples the analog input voltage difference between IN+ and IN−, ranging from 0 V to REF. The reference voltage (REF) is supplied externally and can be independent of the supply voltage (VDD). Power dissipation scales linearly with throughput rate. The SPI-compatible serial interface also features an SDI input that allows multiple ADCs to be daisy-chained on a single 3-wire bus, with optional busy indication. Using a separate supply VIO, it is compatible with 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3 V, and 5 V logic. The AD7980 is available in a 10-lead MSOP or 10-lead QFN (LFCSP) package and is rated over a temperature range of −40°C to +125°C.
