Introduction
The AD5933 is a high precision impedance converter system solution that integrates an on-chip frequency generator with a 12-bit, 1MSPS ADC. The signal generated by the frequency generator is used to excite an external complex impedance. The response signal from the external impedance is sampled by the on-chip ADC and then processed by the on-chip DSP via Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT). The DFT algorithm returns a real (R) data word and an imaginary (I) data word at each frequency point. After calibration, the impedance magnitude and relative phase at each frequency sweep point can be easily calculated. The calculation is performed off-chip using the contents of the real and imaginary registers, which can be read via the serial I2C interface.
