Introduction
The SN65HVD888 is a low-power RS-485 repeater with automatic bus polarity correction and transient protection. During hot plugging, the device detects and corrects the bus polarity within the first 76 ms when the bus is idle. The on-chip transient protection feature safeguards the device from IEC61000 electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical fast transient (EFT) events. This device features robust drivers and transceivers for demanding industrial applications. These bus pins can withstand electrostatic discharge (ESD) events and offer high-level protection for human body model (HBM), air-gap discharge, and contact discharge specifications. The device combines a differential driver and a differential receiver, both powered by a single 5V supply. The driver's differential output and the receiver's differential input are internally connected to form a bus port suitable for half-duplex (two-wire bus) communication. The device features a wide common-mode voltage range, making it suitable for multi-point applications on long cables. The SN65HVD888 comes in an SOIC-8 package and operates in the temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
