Introduction
The ADS1118 is a high-precision, low-power 16-bit ADC. Available in an ultra-small leadless X2QFN-10 package or an ultra-thin small-outline VSSOP-10 package, the device integrates all the functions required to measure the most common sensor signals. The ADS1118 incorporates a PGA, voltage reference, oscillator, and high-precision temperature sensor. These features, combined with a wide supply voltage range of 2V to 5.5V, make the ADS1118 ideal for power- and space-constrained sensor measurement applications. The ADS1118 supports data conversion rates up to 860 SPS. The PGA offers an input range of ±256mV to ±6.144V, enabling high-resolution measurement of both large and small signals. The device measures two differential inputs or four single-ended inputs via an input MUX. The high-precision temperature sensor supports system-level temperature monitoring or cold-junction compensation for thermocouples. The ADS1118 can be configured for either continuous-conversion mode or single-shot mode. In single-shot mode, the device automatically powers down after completing a conversion, significantly reducing current consumption during idle periods. All data is transferred via SPI. The ADS1118 is rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
