Introduction
MT6816 is a new generation high-speed, high-accuracy angle encoder IC based on advanced Anisotropic Magnetoresistance (AMR) technology. The chip integrates two pairs of AMR Wheatstone bridges oriented at 45° to each other as sensing elements, along with high-performance dedicated signal processing circuitry. When used for angle measurement, the AMR devices operate in the saturation region — the chip responds only to directional changes of the magnetic field parallel to the chip surface, independent of field strength. The MT6816 generates two sinusoidal signals from a rotating magnetic field in the x-y plane to calculate the angle of rotation. The chip imposes relatively low requirements on magnet manufacturing tolerances and magnet-to-chip mounting distance variations. It provides incremental ABZ output interface as a replacement for traditional optical encoders, with a maximum incremental output resolution of 1024 pulses/revolution or 4096 steps/revolution, and also offers incremental UVW signals as a Hall replacement, with 1~16 pole pairs programmable. In addition, it provides a 3-wire or 4-wire SPI interface for host controllers or MCUs to read the internal 14-bit angle value, and a single-wire PWM output capable of delivering 12-bit resolution angle data.
