Introduction
The MAX3221E is a single-driver, single-receiver RS-232 solution powered by a single VCC supply. The RS-232 pins provide IEC61000-4-2 ESD protection. The device complies with TIA/EIA-232-F requirements and provides an electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and a serial port connector. A charge pump and four small external capacitors support operation from a single 3V to 5.5V supply. These devices operate at data signaling rates up to 250kbit/s with a driver output slew rate of up to 30V/µs. Flexible power management control options are available. The auto-shutdown feature disables the driver and charge pump when the receiver is disconnected or the remote driver is powered down. The driver can be manually enabled or disabled. The INVALID output goes low when the receiver input is disconnected or powered down.
