Introduction
CA-IS3062x is a galvanically isolated CAN transceiver with an integrated isolated DC-DC converter, eliminating the need for a separate isolated power supply in space-constrained isolation designs. Logic input and output buffers are separated by a silicon dioxide (SiO2) insulation barrier, providing galvanic isolation up to 5kV RMS (60 seconds). The isolation improves communication by breaking ground loops and reduces noise where large ground potential differences exist between ports. The CA-IS3062W/CA-IS3062VW devices are powered by a single 5V supply on the logic side. The integrated DC-DC converter generates a 5V operating voltage for the cable side. The CA-IS3062VW's separate logic power supply input allows logic input and output lines to achieve fully compatible +2.7V to +5.5V logic. These devices require no external components except bypass capacitors to implement an isolated CAN port. The transceiver operates at data rates up to 1Mbps and features integrated protection for reliable communication, including current limiting, thermal shutdown, and extended ±58V fault protection on the CAN bus for devices requiring overvoltage protection. Dominant timeout detection prevents bus lockup caused by controller errors or TXD input faults. These CAN transceivers also feature a ±30V input common-mode range (CMR), exceeding the -2V to +7V range specified by ISO 11898. The CA-IS3062W/CA-IS3062VW are available in a wide-body 16-pin SOIC (W) package with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
