Introduction
The DRV8837 provides an integrated motor driver solution for cameras, consumer products, toys, and other low-voltage or battery-powered motion control applications. The device can drive one DC motor or other devices such as solenoids. The output driver block consists of N-channel power MOSFETs configured as an H-bridge to drive motor windings. An integrated charge pump generates the required gate drive voltage. The DRV8837 can deliver up to 1.8A of output current. It accepts a motor supply voltage (VM) ranging from 0 to 12V and a logic supply voltage (VCC) ranging from 1.8V to 7.0V. The DRV8837 features a PWM (IN1/IN2) input interface compatible with industry-standard devices. It offers an ultra-low-power standby mode with a standby current of 120nA. Internal shutdown functions integrate overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, UVLO, and overtemperature protection. The device is housed in a compact DFN2X2-8 package with an exposed thermal pad for effective heat dissipation.
The DRV8837 is an H-bridge driver capable of driving one DC motor or other devices such as solenoids. The output is controlled via the PWM interface (IN1/IN2) on the DRV8837. The device features a low-power sleep mode that can be enabled using the nSLEEP pin. Integrated FET drivers and FET control circuitry significantly reduce the component count in motor drive systems. In addition, the DRV8837 integrates protection features including UVLO, overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown.
When the nSLEEP pin is driven logic low, the DRV8837 enters low-power sleep mode. In this state, all unnecessary internal circuitry is shut down, minimizing power consumption. The input pins can be driven within their recommended operating range regardless of whether VCC or VM is present, with no leakage current path to the supply rails. A weak pull-down resistor (approximately 100 kΩ) to ground is present on each input pin. VCC and VM can be powered up and powered down in any order. When VCC is removed, the device enters a low-power state and draws minimal current from VM. When VCC is in the range of 1.8V to 7V, VCC and VM can be connected together. The VM voltage has no UVLO protection; therefore, the internal device logic remains active as long as VCC > 1.8V. The VM pin voltage may drop to 0V; however, the load may not be fully driven at low VM voltages. If at any time the voltage on the VCC pin falls below the UVLO threshold, all FETs in the H-bridge will be disabled. Normal operation resumes once VCC exceeds the UVLO threshold.
