Introduction
MAX1487E is a low-power RS-485/RS-422 transceiver designed for harsh environments. Each driver output and receiver input is protected against ±15kV ESD without latch-up. These devices contain one driver and one receiver. The MAX1487E features an unconstrained driver slew rate, allowing data rates up to 2.5Mbps. With the driver disabled and the line fully loaded, these transceivers consume only 120µA of supply current. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. Short-circuit current is limited, and a shutdown circuit is provided to place the outputs in a high-impedance state, preventing excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs feature failsafe functionality, ensuring a logic-high output under open-circuit conditions. The MAX1487E features one-quarter unit load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 128 transceivers on the bus. The MAX1487E is designed for half-duplex applications.
