The PCM186x series of audio front-end devices adopt a new approach to audio function integration, enabling them to easily comply with European eco-design regulations while achieving high-performance end products at a lower cost. The PCM186x supports single-supply operation at 3.3V and provides an integrated programmable gain amplifier (PGA) in a small package. With this configuration, smaller and smarter products can be realized at a lower cost. The PCM186x audio front-end supports single-ended input levels from a small microphone input in the mV range to a 2.1V RMS line input without the need for an external resistive divider. The front-end mixer (MIX), multiplexer (MUX), and PGA also support differential (Diff), pseudo-differential, and single-ended (SE) inputs, making these devices an ideal interface for products requiring interference suppression. The PCM186x integrates many system-level functions that can assist or replace certain DSP functions. The integrated bandgap voltage reference provides excellent PSRR, so a dedicated analog 3.3V power supply rail may not be required.
