This device is a 4-bit Johnson decade counter that provides eight glitch-free, active-high decimal outputs. It features an active-low carry output from the most significant flip-flop, rising-edge and falling-edge count clock inputs, and a priority asynchronous master reset input. The counter increments in two conditions: when a low-to-high transition occurs on CP0 while CP1 is low, or when a high-to-low transition occurs on CP1 while CP0 is high. For cascading, the Q4-7 (overbar) output, which remains low during counter states 4, 5, 6, and 7, can be used to drive the CP0 input of the next stage. A logic high on the MR pin asynchronously resets the counter to the zero state, independent of the clock inputs. Internal circuitry provides automatic count code correction, allowing recovery to normal counting mode within nine clock pulses after any illegal code. The circuit is referenced to VSS and operates over a recommended supply voltage range of 3V to 15V; unused inputs must be connected to VDD, VSS, or another input.
