Introduction
The AD9957 can be used as a general-purpose I/Q modulator and agile upconverter in communication systems where cost, size, power consumption, and dynamic performance are all critical. It integrates a high-speed DDS, a high-performance, high-speed, 14-bit DAC, a clock multiplier circuit, digital filters, and other DSP functions on a single chip. The device provides baseband upconversion for data transmission in wired or wireless communication systems.
The device delivers improved performance in terms of operating speed, power consumption, and spectral performance. Unlike its predecessor, the device supports a 16-bit serial input mode for I/Q baseband data. In addition, the device can be programmed to operate as a single-tone sine wave source or an interpolating DAC.
The reference clock input circuit includes a crystal oscillator, a high-speed divide-by-2 input, and a low-noise PLL for reference clock frequency multiplication.
The user interface includes a serial port for easy interfacing with the Blackfin DSP SPORT, as well as profile pins for convenient and rapid shift keying of any signal parameter (phase, frequency, or amplitude).
