Introduction
The XPS3500 is a highly integrated mixed-signal, analog voltage output sensor signal conditioner optimized for resistive-element sensors in industrial and process control applications. The device features amplification, calibration, and temperature compensation, with combined operating characteristics that approach the inherent repeatability of the sensor. Its fully analog signal path introduces no quantization noise into the output signal, while digital correction is implemented using an integrated 16-bit DAC. Offset and span calibration via the 16-bit DAC provides true interchangeability for sensor products. The XPS3500 incorporates a programmable sensor excitation source, a 16-level programmable gain amplifier, a 512-byte internal EEPROM, four 16-bit DACs, and an on-chip temperature sensor. An interface for an external temperature sensor is also provided for remote monitoring and signal conditioning. The XPS3500 supports flexible calibration through external compensation algorithms to accommodate sensors with varying characteristics, achieving calibration accuracy within 0.1%. The device supports both ratiometric and fixed reference voltage operating modes, with 4-level programmable output clamping on the analog output to prevent overshoot. In addition to offset and sensitivity compensation, the XPS3500 provides unique temperature compensation by detecting the linear temperature coefficient, delivering improved temperature compensation while reducing sensing costs. The XPS3500 is available in 8-pin or 16-pin packages, with commercial, industrial, and automotive temperature ranges. A customer-support calibration system is also available.
