Introduction
The MAX485EESA+T is a low-speed, limited differential transceiver operating at 3V to 5.5V with ±15kV ESD protection, providing full RS-485 compatibility for half-duplex applications. Each section contains one driver and one receiver, designed for data transmission over an extended common-mode voltage range (-7V to +12V). It supports data rates up to 10Mbps. The driver features short-circuit current limiting and is protected against excessive power dissipation by a thermal shutdown circuit that places the driver outputs in a high-impedance state. The receiver inputs include fail-safe circuitry that guarantees a logic-high output when the inputs are open, shorted, or when the driver is disabled but not driven. Both components feature power-up/power-down modes with glitch-free driver outputs, allowing the transceiver to be inserted into or removed from a live bus. The CMOS design significantly reduces power consumption without compromising overload or ESD protection. Typical quiescent current is only 300µA in active mode and 1µA in shutdown mode.
