Introduction
The CC2538xFnn is an ideal wireless microcontroller SoC for high-performance ZigBee applications. The device incorporates a powerful MCU system based on an ARM Cortex-M3, featuring up to 32KB of on-chip RAM, up to 512KB of on-chip flash memory, and robust IEEE 802.15.4 RF capability. This enables the device to handle complex network protocol stacks involving security, demanding applications, and over-the-air downloads. 32 GPIO pins and serial peripheral interfaces provide simple connectivity to the rest of the board. A powerful hardware security accelerator enables fast and efficient authentication and encryption while the CPU handles application tasks. Multiple low-power modes with retention capability allow rapid wake-up from sleep and significantly reduce power consumption during periodic tasks. To facilitate smooth development, the CC2538xFnn includes a robust debug system and a comprehensive driver library. To reduce the application flash footprint, the CC2538xFnn ROM contains a utility function library and a serial bootloader.
Features
- Microcontroller: Powerful ARM Cortex-M3 with code prefetch, up to 32MHz clock speed, 512KB/256KB/128KB in-system programmable flash, OTA support, dual Zigbee application configuration support, up to 32KB RAM (16KB retention in all power modes), cJTAG and JTAG debug
- RF: 2.4GHz IEEE 802.15.4-compatible RF transceiver, -97dBm excellent receiver sensitivity, robust performance under 44dB ACR interference, up to 7dBm programmable output power
- Security hardware acceleration: Future-proof AES-128/256, optional SHA-2 hardware crypto engine, ECC-128/256 for secure key exchange, RSA hardware acceleration engine, radio command strobe processor and packet handling processor for low-level MAC functionality
- Wide supply voltage range (2V to 3.6V)
- Peripherals: µDMA, 4 general-purpose timers (32-bit or 2×16-bit each), 32-bit 32kHz sleep timer, 12-bit ADC with 8 channels and configurable resolution, battery monitor and temperature sensor, USB 2.0 full-speed device (12Mbps), 2×SPI, 2×UART, I2C, 32 GPIO pins (28×4mA, 4×20mA), watchdog timer
- Layout: 8mm×8mm QFN56 package, industrial-grade device operating up to 125°C, minimal external components, single crystal for asynchronous network
- Development tools: CC2538 development kit, FCC- and ETSI-certified reference designs, complete software support for Contiki/6LoWPAN, smart grid, lighting, and Zigbee home automation including example applications and reference designs, Code Composer Studio, IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM, SmartRF Studio, SmartRF Flash Programmer
