Introduction
Positive temperature coefficient devices provide overcurrent protection for electrical and electronic equipment. Their operating principle is based on conductive metal strips embedded within a polymer matrix. Under normal conditions, the device resistance is near zero; however, an overcurrent condition causes the PTC to heat up and the polymer to expand, thereby increasing impedance. When the current returns to normal, the component cools down, restoring its original shape and ultra-low resistance level.
