Introduction
The LM2575 series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all the active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator, capable of driving a 2A load with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltage options of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 15V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators include internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator, minimizing external component count for ease of use. Efficiency is significantly higher than that of common three-terminal linear regulators, making them an ideal replacement that typically requires no heatsink or only a small one. A standard inductor series optimized for use with the LM2575 is available from multiple inductor manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: guaranteed output voltage within ±4% and oscillator frequency within ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown circuit is also provided, with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions.
