Introduction
The MC1081 series is a highly integrated, multi-channel, wideband digital capacitive sensing IC. The chip connects directly to measurement electrode plates and detects capacitance changes through variations in oscillation frequency. The excitation frequency is configurable from 0.1 to 30 MHz, and the measurement frequency output is a 16-bit digital signal with a maximum capacitance resolution of 1 fF. The chip supports multiple operating modes, capable of measuring single-ended capacitance, floating differential capacitance, and mutual capacitance. An integrated 16-bit high-precision digital temperature sensor enables temperature compensation and other temperature-composite sensing applications. The chip employs a fully digital architecture, with all functions configurable and data readable via I²C interface at communication rates up to 1 Mbps.
Capacitive sensing detects minute capacitance changes in a target material under electric field excitation, enabling dielectric detection of various substances. It is a non-contact, high-resolution, high-speed, low-power, and low-cost sensing method. Compared to similar products on the market, the MC1081 can simultaneously measure up to 10 channels of single-ended capacitance or 5 channels of differential capacitance. It features a wide excitation frequency tuning range with configurable amplitude, versatile and flexible capacitance measurement modes, a wide operating voltage range, and a simple peripheral circuit with strong adaptability. The chip is well-suited for a broad range of applications including non-contact dielectric detection, liquid level measurement, touch control, proximity sensing, water immersion detection, moisture detection, and water content analysis.
