Introduction
High-performance current-mode PWM controller designed for cost-effective AC/DC converters, delivering up to 12W (18W for ME8115B) continuous output power across a wide input voltage range of 85–265V, with peak output power up to 18W. An optimized high-integration circuit design combined with a cost-effective bipolar process minimizes overall product cost. This power controller operates in a typical flyback topology to form a compact AC/DC converter. The internal startup circuit employs a unique current-sinking approach that utilizes the amplification of the power switch transistor itself to complete startup (Ic-to-Ib amplification of the switching transistor), significantly reducing power dissipation in the startup resistor. At lower output power levels, the IC automatically reduces its operating frequency to achieve ultra-low standby power consumption. When VCC reaches 10V, the internal OVP activates to clamp the output voltage, preventing excessive output voltage rise caused by optocoupler or feedback circuit failure. The IC also provides comprehensive overcurrent protection and anti-saturation functions to guard in real time against abnormal conditions such as overload, transformer saturation, and output short circuits, enhancing power supply reliability. An integrated thermal protection function with hysteresis shuts down the output when the chip overheats. The current limit can be set via external resistor Rs.
