Introduction
Transient Diverting Suppressors (TDS) protect systems against EOS and ESD events. Using IC technology, they provide a reliable surge protection solution — rather than relying on the PN junction breakdown and current dissipation found in conventional TVS diodes, surge current is diverted to ground through an integrated surge-rated FET. Compared to the PN junction in TVS devices, this approach offers lower on-resistance. As a result, TDS devices deliver a precise, stable, temperature-independent clamp voltage, minimizing the residual voltage across the protected system.
The ESTVS2200DRVR is ideally suited for protecting power buses operating up to 22V, with a rated peak transient pulse current of 70A (tp = 8/20μs). The TDS comes in a compact DFN2020-6L package — 90% smaller than industry-standard SMA/SMB packages — with lower capacitance and 50% lower leakage current compared to conventional TVS-based solutions.
