Introduction
The ADN8834 is a monolithic TEC controller integrating a TEC controller. It features a linear power stage, a PWM power stage, and two zero-drift, rail-to-rail op-amps. The linear controller works in conjunction with the PWM driver to control internal power MOSFETs in an H-bridge configuration. By measuring the feedback voltage from a thermal sensor and using the integrated op-amps as a PID compensator to condition the signal, the ADN8834 drives current through the TEC to bring the temperature of a laser diode or passive component connected to the TEC module to a preset target temperature.
The ADN8834 supports NTC thermistors as well as PTC RTDs. The target temperature can be set via an analog voltage input from a DAC or an external resistor voltage divider.
The ADN8834's temperature control loop is stabilized through PID compensation using built-in zero-drift chopper amplifiers. An internal 2.50 V reference provides 1% accuracy output for biasing the thermistor temperature sensing bridge and voltage divider network, enabling programmable maximum TEC current and voltage limits in both heating and cooling modes. Through the zero-drift chopper amplifiers, the autonomous analog temperature control loop maintains excellent long-term temperature stability.
