Gas discharge tubes utilize inert gas sealed within a ceramic tube to provide an alternative circuit path for voltage spikes. The ceramic housing and nickel connectors enable the device to withstand high loads. The SMD4042 series GDTs feature a surge rating of 3kA with an 8/20μs waveform. This series adopts a square SMT package, which helps simplify pick-and-place processes on PCBs. This GDT series is ideal for broadband equipment applications. The low capacitance in the off-state is compatible with high-bandwidth applications, and the capacitance value does not vary with the voltage across the GDT. The SMD4042 series GDTs are designed to protect electrical, multimedia, and communications equipment against overvoltage transients in SMT assembly applications.
