Introduction
Gas discharge tubes (GDTs) normally maintain a high insulation resistance state, equivalent to an open circuit, with negligible impact on normal circuit operation. When a transient overvoltage occurs in the circuit and its amplitude exceeds the breakdown voltage of the GDT, the gas inside the tube becomes ionized, causing the GDT to conduct rapidly and clamp the overvoltage to a lower level, thereby protecting the parallelly connected electronic equipment or circuit components from high-voltage surge damage. Once the overvoltage subsides, the GDT immediately returns to its high insulation resistance state, and the circuit resumes normal operation. The 3RB-8 series three-electrode GDT is a leaded component featuring standardized lead pitch and dimensions, offering both ease of PCB mounting and excellent performance. Its low capacitance minimizes signal interference in high-frequency communication circuits. The high insulation resistance ensures no additional loss to circuit performance under normal operating conditions. This series of GDTs is not only suitable for communication interface protection — its ability to withstand high surge currents also makes it well-suited for power supply protection.
