Introduction
Gas discharge tubes are primarily used for overvoltage protection of telephone exchange main distribution frames and subscriber terminal equipment. Compared to conventional GDTs, they provide a higher level of protection, and their fast, precise breakdown voltage makes them suitable for MDF (Main Distribution Frame) modules, high-speed data telecom applications (e.g., ADSL, VDSL), and surge protection on power lines. They offer two forms of protection: combined with varistors to guard against the bulk of sustained voltage pulse spikes, and protection against transient overvoltages transmitted through telephone networks and control networks.
Features
- Overvoltage fault protection against energy surges
- Excellent pulse breakdown response for sensitive equipment
- Suitable for high-frequency applications
- High reliability
- Low arc voltage crowbar device
- Low capacitance (down to 1pF) and insertion loss
- Precisely engineered high-accuracy breakdown voltage, ranging from tens of volts to hundreds or even thousands of volts
- Selective short-circuit failure
- Low inter-electrode capacitance, high surge current capability from a few amperes to tens of kiloamperes
- Good insulation, no radioactive materials
Applications
- Telecom - MDF Modules
- xDSL Equipment
- RF System Protection
- Industrial and Consumer Electronics
- Power Supplies
- Surge Protection
