Introduction
The TPS2592xx series eFuses are highly integrated circuit protection and power management solutions in miniature packages. With minimal external components and multiple protection modes, they provide robust protection against overload, short circuit, voltage surges, excessive inrush current, and reverse current conditions. Setting the current limit level requires only a single external resistor with a typical accuracy of ±15%. Overvoltage events are clamped to a safe, fixed maximum value by an internal clamping circuit, requiring no external components. The TPS2592Ax devices provide OVP for 12V systems, while the TPS2592Bx devices provide OVP for 5V systems. When specific voltage ramp-up requirements exist, a dV/dT pin programmable with a single capacitor is provided to ensure a proper output slew rate. Many systems, such as SSDs, absolutely cannot allow accumulated capacitive energy to be dumped back through the FET body diode into a collapsing or shorted bus. The BFET pin is designed for such systems. An external NFET can be connected "back-to-back" with the TPS2592xx output and the gate driven by BFET. When the TPS2592xx is disabled, current flow in both directions is blocked. The TPS2592xL variant latches off after a fault, while the TPS2592xA variant attempts to restart after a thermal shutdown reset.
